A lil' bit to consider
WHAT DOES A GOMBO ATELIER CUSTOM MARDI GRAS COSTUME INCLUDE?
Costumes are generally head-to-heel, and include a head/neck covering, mask, and, and body covering. The design of each piece is absolutely unique based on the concept(s) gleaned during our consultation. Some body coverings may be dress- or gown-based, while some may include separate tops and bottoms.
At this time, we are unable to accommodate "partial" costume requests.
WHAT KIND OF MATERIALS ARE USED?
Gombo Atelier specializes in sourcing second-hand materials, heirloom-quality when possible, and utilizing local flora and fauna accessories to complement any textile work. Quality is prioritized, though, and when needed we purchase materials new to maintain integrity. Our costumes are constructed with usability and durability in mind to ensure their longevity.
WHAT ABOUT PRICING?
A $150 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your commission slot. This deposit will be credited towards the final invoice. The week of May 1, 2025 you'll be sent a preliminary questionnaire and we'll schedule your consult. In-person consultations are preferred; virtual can be accommodated.
The questionnaire and consultation will explore your personal mythology and idealize how it will be represented through your costume.
We have a base price for the sourcing and creation labor that is involved in each costume creation; currently, that price stands at $750 (USD). Additional materials cost (average $75/$100) will depend on the complexity of the design, the quality/rarity of the materials, and extra labor. Our costumes are completely custom and wearable works of folk art, and they are priced accordingly.
Two weeks after our consultation, your design blueprint will be sent to you along with an invoice quoting your total cost. Construction of your costume will begin once the invoice is paid in full.
HOW AND WHEN DO I GET MY COSTUME?
Each costume has a production/processing time of 8-10 weeks once the final design has been approved and the final invoice has been paid. If the timeline should change, you will be notified.
We offer free local deliveries (within 10 miles of Lafayette, LA) and pickups. We also offer domestic shipping at an additional cost (price varies depending on content and destination).
Other accommodations will be considered, but may require an additional service fee.
